May 2012
Check out this month’s Scribae Legis for information from the NALS of Michigan annual meeting which took place in Detroit. Looks like they had a lot of fun and also learned a great deal in the process. Thanks to those who represented NALS of Jackson County.
If you did not attend law day this year, you missed one of the best ones. It was quite inspiring. The Liberty Bell award definitely was given to the right person.
If you have any ideas for speakers at our monthly meeting, please let one of the Board members know. We are always open to new ideas.
If you don’t feel like cooking dinner on May 30th, come on out to In Good Company for a Community Night to benefit Acro Legal’s Relay for Life Team. See that attached flyer for more information. We would love to see you there. If you are interested in joining our team, please contact Jodi Snyder or Mary Jo Skojec.

Special thanks to each and everyone who agreed to serve on the Board especially to Erin for agreeing to serve as our President once again.
Some of our members will be going to annual meeting in a couple of weeks. I am sure they will come back with new information from the seminars and I am sure there will be a lot of great memories and stories. I am looking forward to reading the fun report. I wish I could be there with you all.
Hope to see a lot of people at installation this week. Come out and support the Board as we get installed as your officers for 2012-2013.
Mark your calendars for LAW DAY – May 2, 2012, 7:30 a.m. Breakfast Buffet, program at 8:00 a.m., at the Country Club of Jackson, 3135 Horton Road, Jackson, Michigan. Guest Speaker is Judge Chad C. Schmucker, State Court Administrator.
Please contact Erin if you are interested in being a chairperson or co-chairperson for a committee. Many hands make light work. Remember the more time and effort put into an organization, the more you get out of it.
March 2012
Hope you are enjoying this AMAZING weather! I have never seen a winter like this nor a spring so early. I hope it lasts! I have to keep reminding myself it is only the middle of March. Just enjoying every moment for what it is.
Tonight is elections. If you have never considered running for a seat on the Board, it is not too late. Nominations will be taken from the floor at the meeting. Remember the more you put into an organization, the more you get out of it.
We have a couple fundraisers coming up. One is Savory Foods (cookie dough, lava cakes, etc.) and the other is Jackson Coffee Company (title speaks for itself). Help support the organization by promoting these two fundraisers.
Unfortunately, I will not be at the meeting tonight for elections. Remember to evaluate what you can do for this organization. Your participation is what makes NALS of Jackson County so GREAT.

January 2012
I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday season. The holidays are always a great time of the year, but I have to admit that it is good to be back into a routine. Wishing you and yours a terrific 2012.
It was really great to see so many at our December meeting and The Legal News even came out and took our picture. I will try to post this picture at a later date. Our Christmas Basket fundraiser was a great success. Thank you Jodi Snyder for handling this. We were able to donate $335 to Aware Inc. for the Jackson Family Visitation Center and also $335 to the John George Home. If you know your boss donated, please say THANK YOU!! I do not have the final figures for the Christmas raffle, but would like to thank Loxci Motts for handling this committee.
As we are nearing the middle of January of 2012, please give some thought about who you would like to nominate to be on the Board and also about the individual awards, i.e., member of the year, etc. The Nomination Form is attached to the January 2012 Scribae Legis. The deadline for turning in your Nomination Form is Friday, January 27, 2012. These forms should be returned to Janette Carras via facsimile (734-668-0416) or e-mail (jcarras@cramerminock.com). Won’t you consider being on the Board. Remember the more involved you are, the more you get out of the group.
December 2011
Need ideas for Christmas gifts. We still have cookbooks and mousepads for sale ($5.00 each). What better way to support our organization and christmas shop at the same time.
LeeAnna also has navy blue hoodies for sale. I will post a picture of the hoodie. This is a fundraiser for NALS of Michigan. The hoodies are $40 for small, medium and large sizes. They are also available in extra large and extra extra large for $45. This would also make a perfect christmas gift as well.
Ready or not, 2011 is coming to an end. We have accomplished a lot this year, learned a great deal and also had some great times. I firmly believe that you get out of the organization what you put into it. The more involved you are, the more rewarding the experience is. Please remember this as we bring in the new year. I believe that goes for anything including our jobs, family, friends, etc.
I would like to wish everyone a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR. May 2012 be a healthy and happy one for each and everyone of us. God bless!
November 2011
Where does the time go? Fall is almost over and winter is not far behind. Time seems to go faster and faster each year.
Our November speaker is Bruce Crews. He is one of our past scholarship recipients and is a new attorney. CONGRATULATIONS Bruce! He will be discussing the Amendments to the Court Rules and Jury Instructions. Hope you can attend the meeting and show your support for our past scholarship recipient.
If you need something to do this month, please come out and support some community events. Fellow members, Chris Rebescher and Mary Jo Skojec, are participating in the production of White Christmas. Opening weekend went well and there are still three more performances this coming weekend. See attached flyer for your convenience. (WHITE CHRISTMAS). Also, Jackson Community Concert Band will be performing a Silver Anniversary Concert on November 20, 2011, at 3:00 p.m., at JCC Music Hall. The concert is FREE in honor of the band’s 25th season. Mary Jo Skojec has been a member of this band from the start. Attached is a flyer for this event too. (JCC Concert). Hope you can come out and support your fellow sisters-in-law.
Wishing you and yours a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING. Cherish the time with your family and friends as it is a precious gift.
October 2011
Running a little behind this month, but have been enjoying this beautiful fall weather. October is the month for Court Observance . Therefore, we will be having a presentation by the American Red Cross taking place on Thursday, October 20, 2011, at noon, at Hugo’s. Attached is the flyer. Hopefully, it will be well attended by our association. Remember to invite others from your workplace. The more the merrier.
The Board has decided to forego the Boss’s night celebration for this year due to lack of attendance the last few years. If you have any suggestions for future boss’s nights, please let us know. Never too early to come up with ideas.
September 2011
I cannot believe that summer is over already and September is almost half over. Where does the time go? As we just commemorated the 10-year anniversary of 9/11/01, let us remember to live each day to the fullest and remember to let peoples in our lives know just how much they mean to us. Also, please remember those who have been affected by the recent hurricanes and are now dealing with the aftermath.
We are having a Flower Power fundraiser this month. The orders are due October 7, 2011. If you are interested in looking at the brochure and/or placing an order, please refer to the Flower Power Fundraiser page on this website.
Hope to see you at the meeting on Thursday, September 15, 2011, at 5:30 p.m., at Hard Knock Grill. Vicki Ballinger, PLS, from NALS of Michigan will be our guest speaker.

There will NOT be a general membership meeting this month. However, there will be a membership drive on Thursday, August 25, 2011, from 5:00-6:30 p.m., at Ella Sharp Park picnic rental area located on West Hickory across from Ella Sharp Golf Course. Therefore, please use this month to promote NALS of Jackson County and bring some potential new members to this event. See attached flyer.
There also will NOT be a Scribae Legis for August.
This month some members will be participating in the Jackson County Relay for Life which benefits the American Cancer Society. Hopefully, I will have some pictures to post showing our members involved in the community. At the end of August, we will have at least one member involved in the Civil War Muster.
If you have any activities, photos or news you would like to share with the association, please e-mail me at mjskojec@hotmail.com.
